Registration: Undocumented Youth Organizing Summit 2019
The Undocumented Youth Organizing Summit envisions and aspires to uplift, honor, and directly support undocumented high school and college students to organize for educational change in their schools and uplift their local undocumented communities. The Washington Dream Coalition (WDC), a local grassroots organization of young undocumented scholars and professionals in Washington State that advocate for the undocumented community at the political and educational level, are happy to host our first annual summit.
This summit will be held from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Saturday, December 7th, 2019 at Cleveland High School (5511 15th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98108).
About the Summit
- Students will identify issues in their educational institutions and local community affecting undocumented students and families
- Students will learn organizing skills on how to advocate for change regarding the issues they’re facing and identify during the summit
- Students will come together by grade and region in King County (ideally), to identify how to move this work forward outside of the summit space
- We hope that this is a space where undocumented students can meet each other and bring their most empowered selves to the space, to advocate for educational and community change, together. This summit is meant to be a starting point, for undocumented students to gather and create their own local organizing groups
The summit is for
- Undocumented high school and college students (DACA-recipients or any form of work-permit holders qualify).
- Residents of Washington State, that specifically live or attend schools in King County.
- Undocumented students who have the desire to organize within their schools and communities in an effort to create more spaces that are accessible for undocumented students and families.
- This summit is NOT for allies of the undocumented community.
