Crispus Attucks Park is open to the public, but it is supported entirely by private donations and volunteers.

Unlike other parks, it is not maintained or funded by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation. At the same time, there is currently no system of mandatory dues for people who use the park, even for homeowners adjacent to the park. The park only works if those who use and enjoy it contribute to it in some way.

Budget

It costs over $22,000 per year just to maintain the park. Recurring annual expenses include:

  • $6,700 Lawn Maintenance and Repair

  • $4,200 Water Bill

  • $5,000 Tree upkeep

  • $900 D&O Insurance

  • $3,700 Fees and expenses, including DCRA fees and Community Day expenses

  • $500 Summer Movie Series

  • $21,100 GRAND TOTAL

These costs don’t include the many hundreds of volunteer hours donated every year by neighbors who care for the park. Nor do they include any long-term investments made to the park.
