The 112th Annual Conference on Taxation will cover a broad range of topics including, but not limited to, taxation and tax policies; expenditure policies; government budgeting; intergovernmental fiscal relations; and subnational, national, and international public finance. The conference will focus, as always, on policy-relevant research bearing on taxation and government spending. 

We are pleased to announce our keynote speakers: Emmanuel Saez and Joel Slemrod. Emmanuel Saez, Professor of Economics, holds the Chancellor’s Professorship of Tax Policy and Public Finance and is Director of the Center for Equitable Growth at the University of California Berkeley. Joel Slemrod is the Paul W. McCracken Collegiate Professor of Business Economics and Public Policy at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, and Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics.

Also on the agenda: a plenary session panel discussion on Capital and Wealth Taxation with distinguished panelists including Henrik Kleven (Princeton University), Wojciech Kopczuk (Columbia University), Beth Kaufman (Caplin & Drysdale), and Jason Furman (Harvard Kennedy School).

The conference includes a short-course education session on Saturday afternoon (topic and speaker to be announced) and many opportunities for graduate students to present their research and network with NTA members.

Submissions from the fields of accounting, economics, law, public policy, and tax administration are encouraged.  Our program committee includes experts in all fields.

Members and non-members are invited to submit individual papers to be integrated into sessions, proposals for complete sessions of papers, and proposals for panel discussions. The submission deadline is June 8, 2019. Decisions concerning the inclusion of papers and sessions will be announced in July 2019. All presenters, including members of panel discussions, must then register and pay a conference registration fee.

Members and non-members are also invited to volunteer to be a discussant or a session chair. Decisions concerning discussants and session chairs will be made at a later date. All discussants and session chairs must then register and pay a conference registration fee.

Graduate students are invited to submit in any category (single papers, complete sessions, and panel discussions) and volunteer to be a discussant or session chair. In addition, graduate students may submit single papers for consideration for the NTA Next Generation Session and posters for consideration for the Graduate Student Research Forum. The NTA Next Generation Session consists entirely of graduate student papers. The deadline for submission has now closed. The Graduate Student Research Forum is a poster session that allows students to present their research one-on-one and in a small group setting. The deadline for poster submissions is August 31, 2019.
