FRESH & LOCAL:Tomato, Tomato
National culinary magazines won't feature tomato recipes for months but here in the heat of southeastern Louisiana, markets are bursting at the seams with tomatoes in all varieties. We are fortunate to have year round access to tomatoes, with hydroponics providing our winter selections, but right now, field grown creoles and other slicers, heirlooms and cherries are what you'll find. Take advantage of tomatoes now and beat the heat with caprese or panzanella salads or gazpacho. Try a low acid Carolina Gold from Poche Family Farm, a sweet rich Cherokee Purple from LA Growers' Co-Op, or mix your own pint of cherry tomatoes with a multitude of heirlooms from Accardo's Gourmet Produce. The creole controversy rages on, but you can take your pick from several vendors to see which you prefer. That intense tomato taste we collectively reminisce about? That comes from picking fruit ripe from the vine, which only a local grower can do. And your local grower is choosing varieties for characteristics like flavor and texture, not shelf stability for shipping. We had a pleasant spring but this intense heat could bring tomato season to an early close, so enjoy them while you can.
VENDOR OF THE WEEK:Durham Produce
Brenda Durham and family have been coming to New Orleans from Chilton County, Alabama for 28 years with peaches and other stone fruit. In all those years, she's never missed her market start date until this year when at the last minute, tropical storm Alberto that we here in New Orleans were all gearing up for a couple of weeks ago suddenly took a turn and headed for Alabama. Unlike our Cherry Creek Orchard friends to the north who lost their entire crop in a late freeze this year, the Durhams were largely unaffected by the storm. With dripping chins and juices running from wrists to elbows, we gladly welcome peaches, plums and nectarines into our summer. Find them at Tuesday, Thursday, and both Saturday markets.
TUESDAY'S GREEN PLATE SPECIAL:South of Eden
South of Eden is a plant based pop-up and new CCFM vendor. Founded in the belief that food should be tasty, satisfying and nourishing, everything on offer is created to be just that. As the Green Plate Special vendor, we'll be treated to breakfast and lunch made from entirely whole ingredients (no processed ingredients will be found in any item), locally sourced when possible. You can also pick up vegan breads, sauces, cheeses, dips, jams, ferments and more at the GPS table in June, and then at their regular market table at the  Tuesday Uptown Market beginning in July. What a great addition to the market!

Peoples Health being acquired by UnitedHealthcare
By: Lance Traweek, Managing Editor  June 8, 2018 0
Metairie-based Peoples Health has entered into a preliminary agreement to be acquired by UnitedHealthcare.

With more than 850 employees, Peoples Health serves about 63,000 members across Louisiana. The decision means that Minneapolis-based UnitedHealthcare will be the second-largest Medicare Advantage provider statewide. Humana is the largest.
According to medicare.gov, Medicare Advantage Plans, oftentimes called "Part C" or "MA Plans," are offered by private companies approved by Medicare. Enrollment has increased since the Affordable Care Act was enacted in 2010.
According to Peoples Health, both companies are committed to keeping things business as usual for Peoples Health and UnitedHealthcare's Louisiana-based employees.
"Nothing will change about Peoples Health's Medicare Advantage plans in 2018," a Peoples Health spokesperson said by email. "Members can expect stability in their plans and benefits."
For questions about coverage, members are advised to continue to call the phone number on the back of their Peoples Health member ID card.
Peoples Health members are also being told to access care from doctors, hospitals and other facilities that are part of the provider network, including Peoples Health's four Primary Care Plus clinics.
"Joining with UnitedHealthcare preserves our foundation as a local company with deep ties to Louisiana while creating greater stability and enhancing what we offer to the people we serve," a spokesperson said by email. "There's no better partner for us as we look to navigate a rapidly changing industry and grow into an even stronger health plan."
Sarah Bearce, director of communications at UnitedHealthcare, said the joining together will "lead to an expanded choice of affordable plan options for Louisiana seniors and build on Peoples Health's high-touch, personalized approach to taking care of members."
The price of the acquisition, which is pending regulatory approval, was not disclosed.

The Historic New Orleans Collection and the MASNO - Musical Arts Society of New Orleans will present "A Tricentennial Salute: Piano Music of Louis Moreau Gottschalk and Friends," a piano recital by Peter Collins, Tuesday, June 12, at THNOC's Williams Research Center, 410 Chartres Street.

"A Tricentennial Salute" will feature piano music by four 19th-century New Orleans composers-Louis Moreau Gottschalk, Basile Bares, Emil Richard, and Edouard Déjan. After relocating to Paris in 1841, Gottschalk captivated Europe with Creole folk melodies and Caribbean rhythms. Not only a representative of New Orleans, he is considered the first American composer and pianist to achieve international acclaim, dazzling audiences throughout Europe, the United States, and South America. The other featured composers remained in New Orleans and enjoyed substantial careers in the city's well-established musical community. Their music reflected current trends in European and American salon styles. In keeping with the character of New Orleans, their compositions are often cast in forms that evoke dance and procession, particularly the waltz and march.

New Orleans-based pianist Collins is professor emeritus at Missouri State University where he taught and served as coordinator of the keyboard area for 25 years. An award winner in several national and international piano competitions, he received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Peabody Conservatory and his doctorate from the University of Michigan.

This program is presented with support from Hall Piano CompanyWWNO, and Classical 104.9 FM.

Admission is $20; $15 for THNOC and MASNO members; and free for Caillot Circle, Jackson Society, Laussat Society, and Bienville Circle members.

The decorated Octeto Sicarú makes its Marigny Opera House debut with a program of 20th century through contemporary Mexican guitar music on a set of eight hand-carved guitars that travel with their luthier. The Octet is joined by celebrated American Classical Guitarist Nicholas Ciraldo for Julio César Oliva's México de mis sueños. Ciraldo is an Associate Professor of Music at The University of Southern Mississippi, has played in Boston's Jordan Hall, Berlin's Berliner Dom, and Curitiba's Teatro José Maria Santos, and won numerous international guitar competitions.

This Mexican guitar ensemble was established in 2010. The Octeto Sicarú has performed in Austria, Brazil, Croatia, Slovakia, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, Uruguay, and the United States. In 2013, American guitarist William Kanengiser joined Octeto Sicarú to perform Shingo Fujii's Concierto de Los Angeles. The term after which the ensemble takes its name reveals its intention; Sicarú is a Zapotec word meaning 'beautiful', and the ensemble adopts it in an spiritual sense.

  • Wednesday Night Flights - Bandol, The Gem of Provence, June 13, 2018 - As the Provence rosé consumption craze continues to break records, it becomes harder and harder to find wines from the region that truly have a sense of place.  The classic grapes of the area, cinsault, grenache and syrah are consistently blended to produce lovely aromatic wines but tend to lack a specific identity.  There are a few exceptions to that and the hot, arid village of Bandol sits in the top spot for me.  The reason for this distinction is directly related to the main grape, Mourvèdre. Mourvèdre has one of the longest growing cycles of any wine grape, making it ideally suited to the region's sunny, evenly warm climate.  In our flight tonight David Sobiesk will present wines from 2 of the top producers in the region Domaine Gros Nore' and Domaine Terrebrune (unfortunately the Tempier wines have been delayed).  He'll present 3 wines, a red, white and rosé, while you learn what it is that makes this region so special.  For those of you who are fans of Bandol, you know how difficult it is to get your hands on these wines so if you want to attend I HIGHLY  suggest you make reservations as we will only pour 20 flights.  We will also have a limited amount of these wines for sale that we will make available to attendees of the event before putting them on the shelves.  If you'd like a little something to snack on with your wine, resident cheesemonger Casey Foote will select and present a regional pairing plate ($10 with flight, $15 without the flight). No standing in line for our Wednesday flights - you sit at a table, we come to you and pour tableside complete with lots of educational info on what you are drinking. The flight of 3 wines is $20 - reservations are highly recommended as we can only seat walk-ins if space allows. All wines are available for purchase to drink at Swirl or you can take them to go. For reservations, go to Bandol.

  • Friday Free For All, June 15, 6-8PM, French Favorites - Join Dave Sobiesk from Artisan Fine Wines for a great lineup from France.  Free and open to the public, no reservations required!

  • Saturday Happy Hour, 4-6pm - All wines by the glass are half off!

  • Champagne Education Class, Elements of the Blend - Pinot Noir - One of the defining characteristics of champagne is the blend - a blend of white and red grapes, a blend of multiple different vintages. Certainly, that is a crucial component of what makes champagne such a special wine. It is also part of the art of production - taking the many different components and blending them together to give a balanced and beautiful final product. As we have explored, it is not only about the grapes, but also how the vigneron chooses to grow, vinify, and age them before they get blended together into the bottle of champagne.  To this end, we are going to re-visit a format we did before, basing a series of 3 tastings around different grapes. But, beyond that, I will work to find an array of wines each night that will allow us to explore and understand these different components, or building blocks, that go into the more common blends.  Each single class is limited to 12 people (we will open a waitlist if there is more interest) and will be accompanied by various cheeses and snacks, cost is $45/class.  Reservations can be made here Elements of the Blend, Pinot Noir

New Orleans is one of the easiest cities in the USA in which to find a great bar showing the World Cup. I mean, of course it is! It's a famously international city that loves sports and loooves bars and looooooves excuses to watch international sports while drinking in bars. And the fact that this year's World Cup is happening in Russia, therefore making for some weirdly timed early-morning games? All the better. Summertime day drinking is kind of a specialty around here. The action begins June 14, and you should check back on this list for additional updates as the games (and drink specials) heat up. Olé, y'all.

FINN MCCOOL'S
MID-CITY
NOLA's go-to for all things fútbol and serious fans
Finn McCool's Irish Pub is the beating heart of New Orleans' soccer scene. Showing MLS, English Premier League, European League, and college games packs in the mega-fans -- both expats and locally-grown -- all year round, but the place gets particularly wild for the World Cup. If you want a seat, arrive early.

TRACEY'S
IRISH CHANNEL
A perfect combo of rowdy and well-fed
Tracey's is surprisingly spacious for a neighborhood bar, but with a couple dozen TVs surrounding the room and a solid menu (which includes some of the best po-boys in town), it still manages to pack in a big, jolly, noisy crowd for major sporting events. The World Cup is no different. Expect beer and wing specials daily and bigger promos and planned events for the playoff games, to be announced. This is good for big groups of friends, but arrive early to stake out a table.
COOTER BROWN'S TAVERN & OYSTER BAR
COOTER BROWN'S
UPTOWN/RIVERBEND
Oysters, beers, and soccer: a NOLA hat trick
With one of the best craft beer selections in town, fresh raw oysters (plus a newly-revamped cooked menu), and TVs both indoors and on the patio, Cooter Brown's is a great choice for comfy, lazy outdoor World Cup viewing. Oysters are always half-price on Tuesdays, and more specials are likely to pop up on the menu as the games get going.

BAYOU BEER GARDEN
MID-CITY
The American Outlaws' New Orleans turf
USA soccer's biggest informal booster organization has a New Orleans chapter (of course) and their regular meetings are at this chill Mid-City spot with excellent outdoor viewing space and a beer list that includes approximately every beer currently being brewed (okay, not quite, but the list is north of 180 varieties). With the Outlaws' holding court, the red, white, and blue's presence will be felt even if Team USA didn't actually make it this time around. Either way, they'll welcome you to watch here.

BAYOU BURGER AND SPORTS CO.
FRENCH QUARTER
Beer and burgers on Bourbon
Smack in the middle of Bourbon Street's noisiest few blocks, Bayou Burger doesn't mess around when it comes to beef on buns, and their big messy loaded fries are a destination unto themselves. TVs line the walls, and when it's World Cup time, they'll be showing the games, so bring your snackiest self and get ready to get comfortable and dig in. If you're stuck on Bourbon anyway, you could do far worse.

ARAÑA TAQUERIA
UPTOWN/MAGAZINE STREET
Upscale Mexican digs with tequila especiales
Araña specializes in upscale regional Mexican food and fine tequilas, and it will be showing all of the midday and afternoon games. Though those cheering for Central American teams will feel particularly beloved here, Araña will be offering a free shot every time your team (doesn't matter which) scores a goal, as well as $2 margaritas with the purchase of any lunch entrée. "GOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLL!"
WALK-ON'S BISTREAUX & BAR
WALK-ONS BISTREAUX
CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT
A CBD go-to for sports of all kinds
Walk-On's is partly owned by New Orleans' favorite footballer, Drew Brees (okay, yes, wrong football, but still), and this is a pretty foolproof place to go if you want to see the game. This applies to literally any game, always, but it definitely applies to the World Cup. It'll be packed with suits and ties from the surrounding office complexes for this summer's daytime games, but daily specials will keep them (and you) well-lubricated.

MANNING'S EAT-DRINK-CHEER
WAREHOUSE DISTRICT
Leather seating and foosball tourneys
Manning's Eat-Drink-Cheer, which gets its name from New Orleans' other all-time favorite footballer, Archie Manning (yes, still the wrong football, but we can love two things at once!), is one of NOLA's favorite sports bars. Manning's giant cushy reclining leather chairs in front of the wall-sized televisions are probably the city's most comfortable public place to watch the games, though they'll definitely be a hot commodity, so get there early. Beer and Jägermeister shot specials will be on offer daily for the entire span of the games, and there'll be mini-foosball tournaments on select dates to pass the time between games.

THE CROWN & ANCHOR ENGLISH PUB
ALGIERS POINT
A taste of Olde England on the West Bank
This cheerful little pub, just a couple of blocks from the ferry landing in Algiers, will be showing all of the afternoon games, but will definitely be the place to be when England takes the field. A solid menu of beers on tap (ahem, draught) is accompanied by a solid scotch list and, for those deeply dedicated to having the most British experience possible, a house-infused curry gin. There's no kitchen, but there's a selection of imported crisps available if you're snacky.

ALEX MCMURRAY & GLENN HARTMAN ARE KINGS OF THE SMALL TIMEAT OGDEN AFTER HOURS
/// June 14 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Together Alex McMurray and Glenn Hartman are the Kings of the Small Time singing some of Alex's tunes, some covers, some accordion instrumentals and probably a few good stories along the way.
If Alex McMurray's songwriting seems a big dour at times, that is totally intentional. "Like Blanch DuBois in Streetcar," he says, "I find sorrow to be quite a beautiful emotion. Loneliness can be nice." And he'd know. A New Orleans fixture since the 1980's, he is often compared to Tom Waits; they both have whiskey-throated voices and share a curious ability to find inspiration in the degenerate, not to mention an obsession with the Ninth Ward of New Orleans. Alex's band include Royal Fingerbowl, The Write Brothers, The Valparaiso Men's Chorus, 007, Tine Men and others.
A native of California, Glenn Hartman moved to New Orleans at the age of 18 to study and play music. He spent the next 25 years touring clubs and festivals, and becoming an internationally acclaimed accordion player. He has played almost every major festival and club in the US, and many abroad including Bonnaroo, Bumbershoot, Edinburgh Fringe Fest, Outside Lands, the Hollywood Bowl and the Horde Tour. One of his bands, the New Orleans Klezmer All Stars, has played at 25 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festivals.

MAYOR CANTRELL TO WELCOMETHE KING AND QUEEN OF SPAIN TO NEW ORLEANS

NEW ORLEANS - Mayor LaToya Cantrell will welcome the arrival of the King and Queen of Spain to the City of New Orleans next week. The upcoming visit coincides with the City's year-long Tricentennial celebration. King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia will arrive on June 14 and depart on June 16. Their majesties will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation and several members of the Spanish press.

During the visit, the King and Queen will tour three historic sites, attend major art exhibits and dine as guests of honor at several official dining events, with meals prepared by prominent local chefs.

"It is an honor and a true privilege to welcome King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia to New Orleans at this historic moment for our City," said Mayor Cantrell. "The King and Queen are reshaping what it means to lead in this new century, and as we mark our Tricentennial, we are proud to embrace and to celebrate all the rich cultural traditions that make up our 300-year history -- including the many positive contributions of Spanish culture and the Spanish-speaking people. We look forward to hosting the King and Queen, and to a weekend of wonderful events."

The King and Queen are embarking on a three-city tour in the United States that also includes Washington, D.C., and San Antonio.

New Orleans always attracts the best music acts, and this summer is no different. Don't miss out on all the headliners coming to town from June to September!
  • Maroon 5, June 14  at the Smoothie King Center
  • The Eagles, June 20 at the Smoothie King Center
  • Daryl Hall & John Oates, June 28 at the Smoothie King Center
  • Beyoncé and Jay Z, September 13 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome
  • Taylor Swift, September 22 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome

As June draws to a close, grab your gal pals to celebrate female empowerment. From June 21 to 23, Festigals brings professional development conferences, shopping, and cocktail sipping to the Crescent City. Don't miss two of the most spectacular events: The Stiletto Stroll and the Bodacious Bras for a Cause Brunch.

Acadiana comes to the city when The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation hosts the Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival in Armstrong Park. This two-day, free fest will make you want to hop out of your seat and get down with the best of them. Work on your Cajun two-step! And let's not forget all of the Acadiana food staples: boudin, alligator, and, of course, fresh Louisiana seafood.

Every year, ESSENCE Fest brings a wave of big-name acts to the Superdome. This year's headliners include Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, Snoop Dogg, and more. An annual celebration of black culture, the festival also holds smaller performances as well as workshops, an empowerment speech series, and much more. Bonus: all of the daytime programming at Essence Fest is free!

Inspired by the world-famous Encierro of Pamplona, Spain, New Orleans' Running of the Bulls begins its events on Friday, July 13. Participants take to the French Quarter streets in red and white ensembles as they try to avoid getting hit by a bull. Don't worry though, there aren't any real bulls here. Instead, roller derby team the Big Easy Rollergirls (and their Wiffle ball bats) chase guests around town.

New Orleans celebrates its French roots every July with a tribute to Bastille Day. Held at the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Fete includes local musicians, French cooking demonstrations, a dog costume contest, and plenty of wine and cheese.

New Orleans couldn't pass Louis Armstrong's birthday without a grand affair. Held at the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Mint, Satchmo Summerfest celebrates Pops' birthday with music, food, and a second-line parade appropriately dubbed the "Satchmo Strut." The fest also includes seminars, discussions, and speakers focused on Louis Armstrong and his contributions to New Orleans - and the world.

Don't skip your laundry this week, y'all. Every year, a mass of white clothing takes over Julia Street as guests explore art galleries in the Warehouse District. What started as a way to revive the downtown's art district, has grown into one of the summer's most anticipated events. Channeling days gone by in New Orleans where residents donned white to reflect the summer sun, guests roam in an out of art galleries with handheld fans in tow on this evening celebration.

Don't put those linens in the wash just yet because Dirty Linen Night rolls through the French Quarter the following weekend! Join in as folks stroll down Royal Street to see the art galleries. Shopkeepers give away free dirty martinis and dirty rice too!

"SPECIAL-BEE" DINNER WITH COCHON
Give bees a chance by supporting Whole Kids Foundation's Honey Bee Grant Program

New Orleans, Louisiana - Chef Stephen Stryjewski, co-founder of the Link Stryjewski Foundation, is proud to announce that in honor of National Pollinator Month, Cochon will be teaming up with Whole Kids Foundation for the Give Bees a Chance Campaign. The month-long fundraising campaign aims to showcase the vital role that honey bees play in food and gardens while supporting the Honey Bee Grant Program, which provides educational honey beehives to schools and nonprofits. The benefit dinner at Cochon Restaurant will be held on Friday, June 15 with cocktails starting at 7 p.m., followed by a four-course dinner with wine pairings at 7:45 p.m. The menu will be derived from ingredients that would not be available without bees and pollinators. Tickets are $95 per person with 100 percent of the profits supporting the campaign.

"Pollinators are the secret superhero of the culinary world-without them our world would be a much different place," states Chef Stryjewski. "They help reproduce just about every berry, nut, fruit and vegetable that we eat. Honeybees are the pollinator rockstars with their ability to take pollen and spread it from flower to flower and turn the plants' nectar into honey as a byproduct. Without them our food would be bland and boring. We need to teach our children about the importance of pollinators in our food system." According to the Xerces Society, nearly one-fourth of America's bumblebee species are at risk for extinction. In 2017, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service announced the bee would be protected under the Endangered Species Act, as the bee population has plummeted by 87 percent since the late 1990s.

Five top chefs from across the country, including Stryjewski, a 2011 James Beard Award winner of "Best Chef South," are joining forces with Whole Kids Foundation and hosting fundraising dinners for the Give Bees a Chance Campaign in their respective cities. Participating chefs joining Stryjewski include Rick Bayless, winner of Top Chef Masters and Culinary Hall of Fame inductee with Evan Robinson, 12-year-old contestant on MasterChef Junior Season 5; Tom Douglas, James Beard Award winner and expert in Pacific Northwest cuisine; Kevin Fink, a 2016 Food & Wine Best New Chef winner and owner of Emmer & Rye, a Bon Appétit 2016 50 Best New Restaurants in America; and Roberto Santibañez, chef and owner of Mi Vida in Washington DC and Fonda restaurants in NYC with Susana Trilling, cookbook author, PBS-TV host, and renowned authority on Oaxacan cuisine.

"The Link Stryjewski Foundation is thrilled to be a part of this event because it directly reflects our shared mission to educate, nourish, and enrich the lives of New Orelans young people," states Emery Sonnier, Director of the Link Stryjewski Foundation. The goal for this inaugural campaign is to raise $100,000 that will be used to fund 50 honey beehive grants nationwide, providing educational opportunities around biology, agriculture, ecology, nutrition, and business for students across the nation. "We are honored to work with such impressive chefs to bring philanthropic food opportunities to these culinary hubs," said Nona Evans, president and executive director for Whole Kids Foundation. "All are not only celebrated local talent, but also advocates for providing our kids with opportunities to learn about how food is grown in harmony with nature."

As a part of this year's campaign, lead sponsors Cascadian Farm Organic and Wholesum Harvest have pledged  a combined total of $50,000, or the equivalent of about 25 educational beehive grants. Because Whole Foods Market covers all of the foundation's operational costs, 100 percent of every dollar donated directly supports the Honey Bee Grant Program.

Since 2011, Whole Kids Foundation, with support from The Bee Cause, has granted 529 educational honey beehives. Free curriculum on honey beehives, available to all schools, can be found at https://www.wholekidsfoundation.org/downloads/resources/bee-wise-2015.pdf

pick blueberries on Louisiana, Mississippi farms
Many farms are a bit of a drive, so before heading out call, email or check the farm's website and/or Facebook page. Schedules can change based on the weather and berry availability, especially early and late in the season.
Here are other tips for pickers from area farmers:
  • Bring cash. Farmers prefer it; some only accept cash.
  • Don't eat as you pick. The price you pay is based on weight or the fullness of the container.
  • Wear sturdy shoes or rubber boots. Fields can get muddy. Some farms require closed-toed shoes. Watch for ants as you pick.
  • Bring insect repellent.
  • Wear sunscreen and a hat.
  • Bring your own containers, to be safe. Most farmers provide them; some don't.
  • Call ahead if you want to ensure that pre-picked berries will be available.
  • Go in the early morning or near sunset. Those are the most pleasant times of day.
  • Plan for half a day. The drive and picking take time. Most farmers say it takes an adult about a half-hour to 45 minutes to pick a gallon of berries.
  • Call before bringing the family dog. Most farms do not allow pets.

Film Screening: "Monsieur Beaucaire" (1946)
This comedy, directed by George Marshall, stars Bob Hope as the title character, the barber of King Louis XV of France, and Joan Caulfield as the beautiful chambermaid who steals his heart.
June 25 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Location: BB's Stage Door Canteen
945 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA 70130

Monsieur Beaucaire borrows its title and inspiration from a silent Rudolph Valentino romance-drama (which was in turn based on a novel and play by Booth Tarkington), but transforms the original premise of a duke disguised as a barber into a farce about a real barber and a duke who mask the barber as a nobleman for political gain.
This comedy, directed by George Marshall, stars Bob Hope as the title character, the barber of King Louis XV of France, and Joan Caulfield as the beautiful chambermaid who steals his heart.
Don your favorite French fashion for this one-the best costume wins a prize!
Drink Special: Bubbles
Free Snack: French fries
Happy Hour Film Series:
In conjunction with the Museum's new special exhibit, So Ready for Laughter: The Legacy of Bob Hope, on display in The Joe W. and Dorothy D. Brown Foundation Special Exhibit Gallery from May 25, 2018, through February 10, 2019, we will be hosting a free film series on select Monday evenings in BB's Stage Door Canteen from May 14 through December 3, featuring classic Bob Hope films from 1939-1955.
In addition to the film screenings, themed drinks will be offered from The American Sector Restaurant & Bar, treats will be offered on special months, and free tickets to BB's Stage Door Canteen shows will be raffled off. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and all free screenings start at 6:00 p.m.
Embrace your inner cinephile and check out these classic flicks with us! No RSVP necessary.
The story of how Bob Hope gave levity and laughter to troops during one of the most brutal conflicts in human history is a crucial component of the history of the war-and a demonstration of how humanity can shine through in the darkest of times. The National WWII Museum is proud to have this program supported by the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation.
