SafetyWomenSpaceEugene24 Hour Crisis and Support Line – 541-485-6513 (800-281-2800)Womenspace continues to provide services to victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Access to these services is through our expanded 24-hour crisis and support line. Spanish and English-speaking advocates are available day and night. They are providing safety planning, emergency services, mobile advocacy, telecommunication options, counseling services, legal advocacy, financial assistance, referrals and access to other resources. Advocates, including our DHS co-located advocates, continue to accept referrals and calls from partner agencies.

To address the current need for survivors to have an alternative method to reach out for help while living in violent households, we are adding an online chat option to our website. This chat feature is a safe, confidential and secure way to communicate. It has an escape function that will erase the entire text stream with a touch of a button or when the chat is idle, as well as redirect browsers windows. We hope to have the Chat Now feature live this week.

What can you do? If you hear sounds of violence and abuse at a neighbor’s home, call the police. If you are concerned about a friend or family member – call our crisis and support line to learn about safety planning and ways to help. If you would like to make a donation or help in other ways, please call our office at 541-485-8232 or visit www.womenspaceinc.org.

Health insuranceOregon Health PlanSee link4/1 UPDATE: All members who are currently enrolled in Oregon Health Plan will not lose coverage during this crisis. This includes coverage that is only state-funded (i.e. Cover all Kids).

Individuals can sign up for OHP without having to verify their income (submit a pay stub) with their application. THey will be able to self-attest, which will help Oregonians get access to OHP coverage more quickly.

Federal stimulus payments and increased unemployment payments WILL NOT AFFECT OHP eligibility. They will not be counted during the application process or when members report a change in household.

------

Eligibility for the OHP is based on monthly income and other requirements. That means you may qualify for OHP now, even if you have been denied in the past. The best way to see if you qualify is to apply.

Financial supportDirect Payments - Stimulus CheckAllSee linkAt this time, Direct Payments are only available for U.S. Citizens.

If you filed a tax return for tax years 2018 or 2019 AND have direct deposit information on file through that process, you will receive a direct deposit into that account automatically in the coming weeks. (This is estimated to cover up to 60% of eligible Americans).

If you DID NOT file a tax return for tax years 2018 and 2019, it is recommended that you file one NOW in order to get your direct deposit information on file for ease of receiving a Direct Payment quickly.

1) You will still receive your Direct Payment regardless of whether you have any unpaid taxes (taxes owed).

2) You will not pay taxes on the Direct Payment.

3) You can file your Federal Taxes for FREE using many options. Here is a useful article that provides an overview of how to file your taxes for free: https://thecollegeinvestor.com/17356/free-tax-software/

If you are on Social Security and automatically receive Social Security benefits electronically, you will receive your Direct Payment the same way. You do NOT need to have filed taxes in tax years 2018 and 2019. The IRS expects to begin issuing paper checks beginning May 4. Historically this has taken up to 10 weeks. More information is forthcoming regarding options for people to receive their Direct Payments. Unfortunately, if you are not already set up with direct deposit information through Social Security or the IRS, your Direct Payment will likely be delayed at best
