About the Hillman Library Media Equipment Lending Program

The Hillman Library Media Production Equipment & Services Lending Program began in 2015 as a partnership between the University of Pittsburgh Library System and the English and Studio Arts Departments. It has expanded to two distinct equipment collections within our Lending Program, The Hillman Collection and the Course Reserve Equipment.

Hillman Equipment Collection Course Reserve Equipment
The Hillman Equipment Collection is available to everyone in the Pitt community, including current students, faculty, and staff.  Course Reserve Equipment is available only to those students enrolled in courses with special borrowing privileges. Hours

Spring 2024 Hours

Monday – Friday: 9am – 8pm

Friday: 9am – 5pm

Saturday & Sunday: Noon – 5pm 

 

Spring Break:

March 9-10: Closed

March 11-14: By Appointment Only

March 15-17: Closed

As a courtesy we ask that all returns be received 30 minutes before closing.  Our final check-out of the day begins no later than 15 minutes prior to closing.

Borrowing Equipment 2024

In accordance with our co-check-out procedure, you are required to inventory all items in your kit and test each piece within one hour of check-out.  

For any issues with your kit, we must receive an email at ULS-HillmanEquipmentRoom@pitt.edu stating the issue within one hour of check-out. Any issues reported after this deadline will be your responsibility, including the associated fees for lost or damaged items.

Borrower's Agreement

By borrowing any equipment from the University Library System, University of Pittsburgh, you agree to be bound by the terms of the Equipment Loan Borrower Agreement. You understand that, in order to borrow these materials, you must be a current student, staff or faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh with a valid University ID card.

Citations and Shout Outs

We always appreciate a shout out or note in your credits.  It is a fantastic way of spreading awareness of the collection and inspiriting other students to get involved.

Sample wording for credit citation: “This project was created with the help of media equipment and services from the University of Pittsburgh Library System’s Media Production Equipment & Services office."
