Pitt Hosts Inaugural Educator Appreciation Day

PITTSBURGH—Pitt Athletics was proud to host more than 1,000 educators and their families from across the Western Pennsylvania region to Saturday's Pitt men's basketball game at the Petersen Events Center for the inaugural Educator Appreciation Day.

In addition to receiving group-rate tickets, all teachers, aides and school administrators were recognized at a timeout and had the opportunity to get a photo taken with their family on the court following the contest.

As an institution of higher education, the University of Pittsburgh recognizes the hard work, commitment and service these individuals have dedicated their lives to.

"We had a great experience today at the Pitt game," said Kevin Lyons, a Physical Education teacher at McIntyre and Ross Elementary in the North Hills School District. "I think it is great the University offers discounted tickets for educators and their family and friends. The group I came with had such a good time. The whole experience tonight was really great and enjoyable for the entire family and all of our friends from the ease of parking, the shuttle and the game itself. The evening was top-notch."

"The Avella School District would like to thank the University of Pittsburgh athletic department for a great event," said Zach Zebrasky, the Elementary School Principal at Avella. "Family and friends were able to catch a great matinee in Oakland. The event allowed us to build team camaraderie and watch a highly competitive game to the very end. I already had people asking to make sure we reserve it next year. We look forward to our next event at the Petersen Events Center to support Pitt Athletics."

"We had a great experience Saturday for Educator Day," said Meaghan Volek, a math teacher at Burrell High School in the Burrell School District. "The seats were fantastic and the pictures on the court were a very unique experience. I greatly enjoyed that we were allowed to enjoy our moment on the court and weren't rushed away. As a Pitt basketball fan, Pitt alumnae and lover of basketball, touching the hardwood at the Pete was a dream come true."
