Race and Police

February, Professor Max Felkor-Kantor joined fellow historian Simon Balto and community-policing researcher Lorenzo Boyd (see header photo) for a panel on “Race and Police.” Professor Keisha Warren-Gordon from the Criminal Justice and Criminology department and the Director of the African American Studies minor moderated.

Good News

Our faculty celebrated many milestones and achievements, including publishing books and winning Fulbrights. And our students and alumni were as exemplary as ever, securing meaningful careers and also winning Fulbrights.

Student History Conference

The 23rd Annual Student History Conference was a smashing success. To honor the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage, keynote speaker Kimberly A. Hamlin spoke about Helen Hamilton Gardener and her impact on women getting the vote. During the awards ceremony, students were honored for their work.

One Ball State Day

In light of the current crisis, we focused our efforts on pursuing donations for the Student Emergency Fund and Take Flight Fund, programs dedicated to helping students who may be struggling financially. Take Flight raised $65,326 and the Student Emergency Fund raised $81,229. And we were very grateful for your gifts, of course.

(Online) Awards Ceremony

Every year, the History Department celebrates the top students in each class year, as well as a small group chosen via application for specific prizes. Although we had to cancel our f2f Honors and Scholarship Ceremony, we still shared and celebrated our student’s achievements through an online awards ceremony.

Gratitude / Graditude Week

Since spring commencement has been canceled, we held a week of celebration on social media from April 26 to May 3, 2020. You can still thank our ‘essential workers’ and congratulate award winners and graduates.
