Beginning today, July 16, Hulu is streaming the final eight episodes of UnREAL, which has been quietly cancelled after four seasons.
As previously rumored, Season 4 has moved to Hulu as part of a new deal struck between the streaming service and A+E Studios. There is no word yet if the episodes will eventually air on Lifetime.
The truncated swan song finds Rachel and Quinn returning to the set of Everlasting for an “All Stars”-themed season. New cast members include François Arnaud (Midnight, Texas), Natalie Hall (True Blood), Meagan Holder (Pitch) and newcomer Alejandro Muñoz.
Both Constance Zimmer and Shiri Appleby step behind the camera for the final season, with Zimmer directing one episode and Appleby directing two (including the series finale).
UnREAL was a critical success in Season 1, earning an AFI Award, a Critics’ Choice Award (for Zimmer) and two Emmy nominations. It then suffered a sophomore slump that resulted in one of TVLine’s Best Shows of 2015 becoming one of the Worst Shows of 2016.
After an 18-month hiatus, Season 3 premiered back in February and averaged 270,000 total viewers and just under a 0.1 demo rating (in Live+Same Day numbers) — about half of its sophomore run numbers, and down 66 percent from its freshman run. It wrapped with a two-hour season finale on April 23.
Your thoughts on UnREAL‘s cancellation? The surprise final season drop on Hulu? Sound off below.
that sucks
I can see why Lifetime sent it to streaming though, since the trailer LIED about the central premise of the season.
I just hope season 4 is wrapped up just as well they could season 3.
It’s sad when a show starts strong then wastes away like this. Guess I’ll catch the finale season the next time I decide to pay for Hulu.
Ugh…I JUST stopped Hulu because I never use it!
It was a great one season idea tbh. They should stick to miniseries and not try to milk it forever.
Not surprised but it is too bad. After season 1 it never lived up to it’s potential — I wish the showrunners had done a better job in the subsequent seasons.
Disappointed, but not surprised. Season 1 was phenomenal, but Season 2 was a major letdown. Season 3 was good again, but I guess they lost too many viewers to continue.
What?!?!?
It was the only show (after cancelling Devious Maids) I watched on Lifetime, but then again, I’m hardly their demo…
Me too and when they cancelled Devious Maids, I just stopped watching.
Unreal, Drop Dead Diva and Devious Maids were the shows I ever watched on Lifetime and they’ve cancelled them all. Goodbye Lifetime!
Too bad you didn’t see Army Wives. It was an excellent series.
Bummer! I hope this eventually airs somewhere that I don’t have to pay extra for. I can’t keep up with all of the streaming services.
Well, I live in the UK and I just watched all 8 episodes back to back, without paying! Stream it online!
Very sad to see it end. I loved this show.
Such a wierd way for Hulu to start streaming it. I don’t think they’d need to dump much into promoting it but a press release day of seems a little week. Was they worries that it was announced last week to start streaming in Australia so they decided to just push it out? Nonetheless, Constance and Shiri make this show so I an going to check it out since my wife got Hulu with a phone plan.
Hulu will often acquire a series and it ends up on the service the day of the press release. I would guess this has been in the works for a while, the series also starts streaming on Amazon UK on Tuesday (and other countries on Amazon?).
Disappointed but not surprised. Season 3 was so good it brought me back after skipping season 2
No surprise at all! Season 2 was horrible, as everyone knows. Then, they promised that Season 3 would be back to the level of Season 1 … but, that was not the case. Season 3 was so bad, that I deleted if off my DVR so that Season 4 wouldn’t even record. Sad.
Such a great concept and very well done (most of the time). Really going to miss this show :( maybe Hulu will pick it up?
Did you read the article? Hulu DID pick it up.
Tried to watch. Did not catch my imagination, so no loss to me.
Great surprise to start the day! So excited to binge watch the new season. Sad it is the last season of the show. Hope it have a a good ending to the show and with the characters as well.
I just assumed it was the final season so I’m not surprised at all. They filmed it ages ago and it’s much shorter so I just thought that means it’s just a wrap up to tie up a few loose ends. I mean, it’s a bit rough to keep the cast and crew contractually obliged for such a long amount of time.
Ugh! Lifetime better air it or at least put it on their On Demand
At least we got a fourth one… sad to see it cancelled
I was looking forward to seeing it on Lifetime.
Webstreaming is something I don’t bother with.
I’ll miss the show.
Well this sucks! I’ve watching faithfully and now I don’t get to see the final season because I am not a Hulu subscriber? Thanks Lifetime!!
So sad about this news but wow am I going to binge the hell out of this! I wish it wasn’t getting such an unceremonious end though. This series was groundbreaking in a lot of ways. It deserves more fanfare for its final season.
Why can’t Lifetime just air the remaining episodes? Summer is the perfect dumping ground for their rejects.
Genuinely enjoyed season 1 but got tired of every man on the show being desperately in love with Rachel. 😒
Kind of wish they had let season three be the end. It was a pretty fitting ending.
It’s very unfair for those of us who were loyal to Lifetime and watched the 3 seasons of Unreal. I shouldn’t have to get Hulu or anything else to watch the end of a show that I was invested in. I hope Lifetime does the right thing and airs the last episodes.
Good riddance. After the poorly written episode about the traffic stop I stopped watching. Whoever wrote it was grossly misinformed about police, how they are trained, how they operate, and made the assumption all cops are racist. Karma’s a bitch.
With that said, have you been watching at all what is going on in America with police? All cops aren’t racist but some of them are and do awful things.
Keep in mind that the media is very liberal and they hate cops so they jump on stories like that without having all the facts in place. Once the media shows the police press conferences with facts, people have already made up their minds. And a lot of videos start recording once the incident is out of control so the public only sees the middle of an incident and not what led to the incident. Police have a right to use force to protect their lives and the lives of the public. People record these incidents without knowing the rest of the details. Are there bad cops? Of course. there are also bad teachers, doctors, lawyers, etc. But the world right now seems to think that all cops are bad. That episode about the cop pulling over he black driver was so poorly written and the writer clearly had no knowledge of how police think, it was their version of how things go down. it was so far fetched they completely got it wrong. At the end of the day, politics had no place on this show. it’s about reality TV and not police stops.
You voted for Trumpah Loompah didn’t you?
