In memory of Terrence “Terry” Laughlin, former trustee of the University and vice chairman of Bank of America’s wealth management businesses who passed away in October 2018, a $2 million gift to the University of Pittsburgh has been made by the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. The gift will establish the Terrence Laughlin Chair in Finance.

Laughlin earned his MBA from the Pitt’s Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business in 1981. In 2007, he joined the University’s Board of Trustees where he served on numerous committees and chaired the investment committee from 2013 until 2018. His tenure on the Board ended in June 2018.

“This is an extraordinary gesture — one that recognizes Terry’s years of unfailing service to the University of Pittsburgh and also his unparalleled leadership, talent and impact in the field of finance,” said Chancellor Patrick Gallagher.

Additionally, a Bank of America financial center in Laughlin’s hometown of Pittsburgh will be named the Terry Laughlin Financial Center. The center, which will open in June, is located in East Liberty, near the University.

The charitable gift and financial center naming were announced at a Feb. 5 memorial service held at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. Nearly 500 family, friends and colleagues attended.

In honor of Laughlin’s service to Bank of America, and his impact on the financial services industry, the Bank of America Corporate Center in Charlotte, N.C., and the Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park in New York City were lit Tuesday evening in blue and gold.
