Help me give my students a reference guide to ceramics (Vitamin C and 500 Teapots) and restock our supply of tools. Throughout the year tools break and with 300 students we need more to share.
I teach a variety of standard, honors, and IB/AP visual art classes with a broad mix of students as our school draws from a wide range of socioeconomic situations. Because of this and the first arts class being required for graduation, the playing field is leveled and relationships form between students that would never have crossed paths in their daily lives.
It is my privilege to facilitate these relationships and teach ceramics/visual art/3D design to these students, many of whom have not been in a dedicated art class since they were in elementary school.
My Project
This project will fill out our waning supply of tools and provide 2 very good reference books. The tools will be used by all my classes this year and next and the books will be used as references in my advanced classes.
The most complex form in Ceramics is a well-made teapot.
It requires excellent 3D design skills as well as proficiency in the variety of hand tools and forming methods. As a lesson, a teapot assignment provides and avenue to teach a broad range of skills and clarify the necessity of good design in all stages of a piece.
