Where life science collaborates.
About us
We are a global, not-for-profit alliance of life science companies, vendors, publishers, and academic groups that work together to lower barriers to innovation in R&D. Our projects transform R&D innovation through pre-competitive collaboration. We bring together the key constituents to identify the root causes that lead to R&D inefficiencies. We develop best practices and technology pilots to overcome common obstacles. Our members collaborate as equals on open projects that generate significant value for the worldwide life sciences community.

Thank you Scientific Computing World
Exciting developments in the #LifeSciences industry! The recent survey by the Pistoia Alliance highlighted that 70% of experts recognise the potential of #AI, but many are still grappling with implementation challenges like data integrity and interoperability. At their largest-ever European conference, Pistoia brought together nearly 300 attendees under the theme 'Collaborate to Innovate', featuring renowned speakers like Dame Janet Thornton and Dr Larry Callahan from the FDA. The focus? Overcoming #regulatory hurdles and fostering collaboration to harness the full potential of AI in life sciences. Dr Becky Upton, President of the Pistoia Alliance, emphasizes the importance of industry collaboration to stay ahead in this rapidly evolving landscape. "Companies must run this race alongside each other, as a unified front, to ensure that everyone benefits equally from AI," she says. Concerns about AI trustworthiness were also addressed, with 63% expressing worries about data quality. But fear not. Initiatives like the Clinical Operations Ontology and FAIR Maturity Matrix are paving the way for safer, more efficient AI adoption. Excited for what's next? Join their upcoming member conference in Philadelphia this November 12-13 to dive deeper into these groundbreaking projects. #LifeSciences #AI #Innovation #Collaboration #PistoiaAlliance https://lnkd.in/eV-mMAFx

We were thrilled to present the remarkable progress achieved in the early stages of our Clinical Operations Ontology initiative. Our automation efforts streamline site identification, expedite feasibility questionnaires, prevent redundant data collection, and strengthen the site selection process. Our project manager, Aditya Tyagi, introduced our latest venture in harnessing ontology, while Crown Point Technologies, LLC led the demonstration. The project focuses on developing a semantic data model tailored to represent clinical trial designs, particularly protocol data. A successful demonstration at the London conference highlighted how strategic use of linked data, public ontologies, and knowledge engineering methods can partially automate site feasibility evaluations, enhancing the efficiency of data usage and pinpointing areas requiring manual input. In the upcoming period, we will continue refining our taxonomy and ontology designs. This innovative approach aims to translate intricate designs into actionable clinical operation tasks, starting with site feasibility assessments. This marks a significant advancement in modeling the knowledge domain of clinical trial design and execution. Thanks to our steering committee members for providing their expert guidance and financial support: Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany Gernot Weber, Hrvoje Mohorić, Stefan Gilb Roche: Marcel Merfort, Cedric Berger Novartis: Artur Schaaf, Rudi Ager Boehringer Ingelheim: Karsten Quast The Pistoia Alliance offers a unique platform for collaboration among a diverse array of pharmaceutical members, both large and small, service providers for R&D to spearhead groundbreaking technologies that hold industry-wide significance.
