The #FAIR data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) have been around for nearly a decade. FAIR data increases clarity and efficacy of communication between humans as well as machines, and provides a sound basis for creating AI systems. FAIR implementation at scale in the life-sciences could unburden scientists, facilitate discoveries, speed-up R&D trajectories, increase insight generation for leaders, and reduce time-to-market of treatments ultimately benefiting patients and the entire ecosystem. While several life-science companies are well on their way to embed the FAIR principles in their operations, at any given time different organisations are at different stages of their FAIR implementation journeys. Benchmarking the capability of FAIRness in an organisation is challenging, as well as identifying goals, directions for improvement and monitoring progress. While there are multiple FAIR data maturity models and metrics, there is no simple, agreed, maturity assessment model of FAIR data principle implementation at the organisational level for life-science organisations. To address that gap, the Alliance’s FAIR Implementation Project has designed the FAIR Maturity Matrix, a FAIR organisational maturity model. The model is articulated along 7 dimensions (data, leadership, strategy, roles, processes, knowledge and tools) and 6 maturity levels (from "life is unFAIR" to "FAIReast of them all") thus forming a "matrix". The first version is freely available now (CC BY 4.0) at: fairmm.pistoiaalliance.org. We look forward to learning from your experiences with the FAIR Maturity Matrix so we can further develop instruments to enable faster and more effective journeys to FAIR adoption. Many thanks to the FAIR experts that made this possible: Andrea Splendiani, Asiyah Lin, Baptiste Tauzin, Barbara Magagna, Ben Gardner, Bérénice Wulbrecht, Birgit Meldal, Chris Day, Clare Garrard, Filip Pattyn, Hans Constandt, Ibrahim Emam, Jim Rinker, John Apathy, Nick Juty, Nick Lynch, Pablo Porras Millán, Philippe Rocca-Serra, Shawna Sadler, Vaishali Mehre, Wouter Franke, and Alexandra Grebe de Barron, Barend Mons PhD. , Martin Romacker, Dr., Ted Slater, Tom Plasterer, Vitaly Sedlyarov for reviewing and providing constructive feedback in the process. It's been a great professional experience working with you all.

Thank you Scientific Computing World
Exciting developments in the #LifeSciences industry! The recent survey by the Pistoia Alliance highlighted that 70% of experts recognise the potential of #AI, but many are still grappling with implementation challenges like data integrity and interoperability. At their largest-ever European conference, Pistoia brought together nearly 300 attendees under the theme 'Collaborate to Innovate', featuring renowned speakers like Dame Janet Thornton and Dr Larry Callahan from the FDA. The focus? Overcoming #regulatory hurdles and fostering collaboration to harness the full potential of AI in life sciences. Dr Becky Upton, President of the Pistoia Alliance, emphasizes the importance of industry collaboration to stay ahead in this rapidly evolving landscape. "Companies must run this race alongside each other, as a unified front, to ensure that everyone benefits equally from AI," she says. Concerns about AI trustworthiness were also addressed, with 63% expressing worries about data quality. But fear not. Initiatives like the Clinical Operations Ontology and FAIR Maturity Matrix are paving the way for safer, more efficient AI adoption. Excited for what's next? Join their upcoming member conference in Philadelphia this November 12-13 to dive deeper into these groundbreaking projects. #LifeSciences #AI #Innovation #Collaboration #PistoiaAlliance https://lnkd.in/eV-mMAFx
