However, if your student will be a virtual learner 2nd semester, you must go onto your Parent Portal account to reserve a spot. If you do not have a Parent Portal account, or you need a password reset, please contact Mrs. Morgan, attendance clerk, at 770-942-0316 Option #1. You will need to send her a photo of your ID in order to process this task. Deadline for registration is October 25th. Here is more information: https://www.paulding.k12.ga.us/Page/44323
Drug Free Survey for 7th and 8th Graders: During Red Ribbon Week, our 7th and 8th Grade students will be taking a survery regarding their perception of drug and alcohol use. For more information and/or to opt your student out of the survey, click on the link at the bottom of the page.
Pennies for Paulding: Pennies for Paulding is a fundraiser to support Hope for Christmas. This organization provides new toys at Christmas for underprivileged children in Paulding County. We will collect donations from October 26th through November 5th. This is not just for pennies. All types of cash and checks made to Hope for Christmas are accepted. If everyone brought in just $1.00, we could donate over $600.00 to this worthy cause! Please consider sending in your spare change and more so we can be a leader in our county. It feels good to give to such a worthy cause! Click the link at the bottom of the page for more details:.
YouScience: Beginning September 28th, our Face to Face Learners completed the YouScience assessment for their grade level during NBI. Our Virtual Learners were sent the link and directions for the assessment through PE. All students are required to take the assessment. The YouScience assessment for 6th grade is an Interest Profiler that helps students match up their interests with careers. For 7th and 8th graders, the assessment includes an abilities screener as well as the Interest Profiler. Students are then connected to careers and career clusters that match their unique abilities as well as their interests.
If your student is a Virtual Learner, please check to make sure they have completed the assignment. It was rolled out the week of October 5th through PE.

tips for virtual learners
- Sign up for Parent Portal. When you are signed up for Parent Portal, you will receive notifications immediately when your student is failing or has missed class. This vital tool will help you to help your student by making sure they are doing their assignments and attending live sessions. If you do not have access to Parent Portal, please contact Mrs. Morgan in the front office at 770-942-0316 Option #1.
- Follow a daily schedule and routine. Get up on time, get dressed, and sign on to the computer when classes begin. Make the hours that virtual classes are in session official "school time" during which students must be working on assignments as scheduled. Avoid procrastination. While it is difficult for many students to self-monitor and self-motivate, it is crucial for success in online learning. Making this an expectation will help immensely!
- Remember that grades count. The grades that are made in virtual learning will count the same as if they were achieved in face to face learning. Students must pass 5 of 6 classes in order to be promoted to the next grade. Virtual learning grades will transfer to your student's record if/when they return to face to face learning. The best plan is to keep grades up so students are not behind when they return to school.
- Set up an observer account in Canvas so you can see everything your student completes. Go to Settings in your student's account and select Pair with Observer.
- Set your notifications to receive messages from teachers. Find the Inbox feature on the left side of the page to see emails from teachers regarding grades, assignments, etc.
- While in Canvas, click on a course then click on Modules. This will give you the ability to see the Weekly To Do List for each class. This will provide links to all assignments for the week.
- To attend Conferences (virtual class sessions), click on Conferences on the left side of each class page and follow the links.
- Reward a job well done! When you see that your student is doing well on assignments, let them know you are proud of them. Small rewards for achievement can be very helpful for students. This kind of reinforcement along with your monitoring will help your child be more motivated to do well.
