WILMINGTON — Nosh Y’all Temple of Israel presents a weekend of Southern Jewish Culture and Cuisine with Marcie Cohen Ferris, scholar in residence, on Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, Feb. 29.

“A Southern Jewish Table: Food and Identity in the American South” will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Temple building, 1 S. Fourth St. Food can bring alive memory, history and identity, and does so deeply in the Jewish South, where Old World and southern flavors and dishes reveal a complex story of place and religion.

“A Taste of the Jewish South: Exploring Our History and Our Evolving Present” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Reibman Center, 922 Market St. In this exploration of historical ‘moments’ in Southern and Jewish history, Ferris takes on a flavorful - and sometimes - bitter journey through the fascinating story of Southern Jewish life, including Wilmington’s historic Temple of Israel community.

Ferris is an emerita professor in the Department of American Studies at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
