The aircraft suddenly entered a wide descending right turn and radio contact was lost. At 7 a.m., Richard Randolph reported airplane wreckage in a field near his house, 1.5 miles northwest of Bolivia. Thirty-four people on-board were killed. It would later be determined that a blast of dynamite caused the crash, and one of the passengers, a New York businessman, was implicated. The wreckage was slowly recovered and moved to the New Hanover County Airport. [CONTRIBUTED]Wilmington StarNewsThe crash site near Bolivia of National Airlines Flight 2511. He liked what he saw and decided to take a “time exposure” photo slide. He set his 35mm camera on a tripod and took this photo. Examine the photo and you can pick out some of the stores including the very popular Bailey Theater. Notice the horizontal red and white traces of lights. They are the lights of cars passing down Front Street caused by the “time exposure” camera setting.
