UNCW announced the hiring of Dottie Hampton as its new head volleyball coach on Tuesday. Hampton replaces Amy Bambenek, who resigned in late January following an 11-year tenure with the program.

Hampton arrives in Wilmington after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Coastal Carolina.

"I'm humbled and excited to lead the UNCW volleyball team as we continue to build a winning tradition," Hampton said in a press release from the school.

Prior to Coastal Carolina, Hampton served as an assistant at South Carolina from 2014-17, finishing the 2017 season as interim head coach. In 2012, she was the head coach at Niagara, finishing with a 15-14 record.

Hampton also served as an assistant coach at Indiana (2005-06), George Mason (2007-10), Pittsburgh (2011) and Butler (2013).

"We're very excited about Dottie becoming a Seahawk," UNCW athletic director Jimmy Bass said in the release. "She brings an impressive volleyball pedigree to our program. She is very familiar with the Colonial Athletic Association and Seahawk volleyball, so it will be a seamless transition. Our student-athletes and staff will enjoy working with Dottie as the program continues to grow and prosper."
