Latest headlines, closures for Hurricane Isaias

Wave Transit: All Wave Transit services, including the Downtown Trolley and Paratransit service, will cease at 6 p.m. Monday, August 3 to ensure the safety of passengers and employees. Tuesday’s service has been delayed and will start at 9 a.m. For further information and updates, click here.
Cape Fear Public Utility Authority: Customer Service Center at 235 Government Center Drive will close for in-person services at 4 p.m. Monday, August 3 and reopen at noon Tuesday, August 4. The Customer Service Center at 305 Chestnut Street will close at 3 p.m. Monday. Click here for more details.
New Hanover County Schools: NHCS schools and administrative buildings will close at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 3. August 3 meal service will continue as scheduled. NHCS schools will be closed on Tuesday, August 4 for students and staff in Plan C remote learning for schools in session. NHCS administrative buildings will remain closed on August 4 and there will be no summer meal service.
Bladen County Schools: All Bladen County Schools will close at 1 p.m. Monday. School operations will remain closed on Tuesday. Further assessments will be done Tuesday to determine the status of opening on Wednesday.
Brunswick Community College Closed Tuesday, August 4 at 12 p.m. BCC will reopen Wednesday and operate a regular schedule.
Cape Fear Community College will close at all campus locations for students, faculty, and staff in anticipation of inclement weather resulting from Hurricane Isaias beginning noon Monday, Aug. 3 through Tuesday, Aug. 4. Online classes will continue as scheduled, however, students experiencing connectivity issues due to the storm should contact their instructors as soon as possible.
Southeastern Community College will close at 3:30 p.m. Monday. This includes all activities and workforce continuing education classes. Online classes will continue as usual. The college will reopen at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
District Court will be closed on Tuesday in Brunswick and Columbus counties. Bladen County District Court will also be closed Tuesday.
Wilmington Housing Authority closes at noon Monday and will reopen Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Battleship North Carolina will close at noon Monday. It is expected to reopen to visitors at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Brunswick County offices closed Tuesday.
Brunswick Riverwalk at Belville has closed Monday.
Carolina Beach State Park and Fort Fisher State Recreation Area will close at 2 p.m. Monday. Once the storms have passed, staff will access the parks for damage and determine when the parks will reopen.
NHRMC will close all non-emergency entrances at 7 p.m. Monday as part of preparations for Isaias. The only exception will be for women in labor and their support person, who can go directly to the entrance of the NHRMC Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital at any time.
All NHRMC Emergency Departments will remain open through the storm, including those at NHRMC’s 17th Street Campus, Orthopedic Hospital, Pender Memorial Hospital and NHRMC Emergency Department - North.
The American Red Cross recommends sheltering-in-place at home with family, friends or neighbors if it is safe. If evacuation is required, consider staying at a hotel; a shelter should be the last resort during the COVID-19 pandemic. Brunswick County will open its two primary shelters Monday at noon for individuals who plan to leave their homes before Tropical Storm Isaias’ arrival Monday evening.

Bladen County officials declared a state of emergency effective from 3 p.m. Monday August 3 and will open two shelters (East Bladen High School and Bladenboro Middle School) beginning at 7 p.m.
