Cacok leaves behind a legacy at UNCW

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)–UNCW senior Devonate Cacok will leave behind a legacy at UNCW that not many others have.

The Riverdale, Georgia native is UNCW’s all-time leading rebounders and a two-time All-CAA first team selection. The accolades don’t stop there for the big man. He has led the NCAA in stat category for the past three seasons. As a sophomore he set the NCAA single season record with an 80.0 percent field goal percentage. He didn’t stop there as a junior he was the nations leading rebounder and that carried into his senior year. In the 2018-2019 season had a NCAA best 23 double-doubles to his name.

“For four year we’ve competed against him and he is the most fierce competitor there is in this league. We tip our hats from our program to him. We want to let him know how much respect we have for him,” said Northeastern head coach Bill Coen.

Cacok wasn’t just a basketball player, he was very active in the Wilmington community. He could be seen helping out younger basketball players during camps or doing what he could to volunteer in the area.

“He has been a great ambassador for the basketball program and the university. He had a great college experience because he really bought into the college experience,”said UNCW men’s basketball head coach C.B. McGrath.

Now that Devonate has finished up his career at UNCW he will look to take the next step in his basketball career. He will have the option to play professional, but for now he wants to cherish the times he has had in the Seahawk colors.

“It’s crazy of course to know that is it. Four years have gone by so quickly. I just felt like I’ve made a impact on UNCW and I am just happy with everything we’ve been through,”said UNCW senior Devontae Cacok.
